I can’t believe this is the last newsletter!  Your children are each so special and I am so thankful being able to have them this year.

Ask Your Child

  • To tell you their top 3 favorite parts of kindergarten?
  • To tell you what they are most excited about for summer? What are 5 things you will be doing this summer – can not include any sort of screen. :O)
  • To tell you what are 2 ways to help cure a cold. (Think of the story “Teddy Bears Cure a Cold.”
  • To tell you 3 things Mrs. Evans likes about you.

Future Dates:

  • Thursday June 10 ½ day– Camping day. Bring a sleeping bag or blanket. Also feel free to bring a book, game, etc. (Desks will be cleaned and moved out prior to this.)  Bring a lunch.
  • June 9 – Fishing trip at Kinney Lake. You will need: lunch, sunscreen, water.

Even with only a couple weeks left, we are still going strong!  This week, your children began learning about clocks and telling time.  “The Grouchy Ladybug” book helped us each day with our learning.

Ask Your Child:

  • In the story “Matilda”, what can Matilda do with her eyes? (hint: Think of the glass)
  • To use at least 3 words to describe Miss Honey’s house. How is this different from the house Matilda lives in?
  • How can a sphere be made into a circle? (think of the orange)
  • What can a flat rectangle make when it is taped together?
  • What shape did a flat circle turn into? (hint: think of Snuffles roof.)
  • Can you show an adult how to make a rectangle into a cylinder and a circle into a cone (Remember you need to make a cut ½ way in order for this to work well)…only if you have time.

Memory Verse:  And our final memory verse of the year, “Treat everyone like it’s their birthday!”

Future Dates:

  • May 31: Memorial Day – No School There is school that Friday, June 4.
  • June 1: Rocket Launch at the baseball field behind Safeway. We will be leaving the school at 8:45am.  Wear good walking shoes
  • June 2: Kindergarten Graduation – 2:15 in the school cafeteria.
  • June 3: Walk to Humane Society
  • June 9: Field Trip to Kinney Lake – We will be not fishing but taking a nature walk. We will leave the school at 9amWe will have lunch at Joseph Park from 10:30-11:15. Bring a healthy sack lunch or tell me if you need the cafeteria staff to make one.  We plan to return to the school at 11:45.
  • June 10: Last Day - Field Day – ½ day of school.

Homework

Have a wonderful 4 day weekend! See if you can do something special for somebody outside the family that warms their heart.  (We’ll discuss what you did on Tuesday)               -Mrs. Evans

Thank you so much for supporting Wallowa County Humane Society  Through all the generous donations, we earned $1,027!    Next Friday (May 21) from 12-1:30  you are welcome to come bake cookies at my house. 

Ask Your Child:

  • To think of 3 words to describe Miss Trunchbull (the Headmistress in the book “Matilada”.) How is her personality different from Miss Honey?
  • To teach your family how to play “Who Stole the Cookie From the Cookie Jar?” Can you play it together as a family?
  • What does the word “symmetry” mean? How did they make their caterpillar symmetrical?

Memory Verse:  And our final memory verse of the year, “Treat everyone like it’s their birthday!”

Future Dates:

  • End of the Year Party/Graduation: June 2@ 2:15 in the cafeteria. Each child will be honored in a special way, so please, everyone come.

I hope you all have a wonderful Mother’s Day!  The party was absolutely fabulous.  Thank you for coming and making it so special.  On the cookie sales sheet, the delivery date will be changed.  Cookies will be delivered the week of May 24. 

If you have chosen to buy cookies, please turn the forms in no later than May 10. 

Ask Your Child:

Another great week has flown by!!!  We are continuing to learn economics:  wants, needs, giving, saving, etc. 

Ask your Child:

  • What do the caterpillars look like now?
  • What does the word metamorphosis mean? (hint: think of the song, “…it’s a word for ____” 
  • Metamorphosis: A tadpole will become a _________, a caterpillar will become a ________; a Kindergartener will become a ________.
  • What is a caterpillars main job? Why? (answer: to eat)
  • What is the first thing a caterpillar eats? (answer: its shell)
  • To tell a time they were scared to death, but had courage and saddled up anyway?
