We will miss you, Ollie!!!

This snowy week we had fun with rhymes, rhymes, and more rhymes.  We will be doing even more fun things with rhymes and Dr. Seuss next week.

Ask your child:

  • What did Mrs. Piggle will do to solve Phoebe’s Fraidy-Cat problem?
  • What friend did they write about in their journal? What was something nice they said about their friend?
  • What does it mean that “Love is not easily angered?” Can you give an example of a time you could have become angry, but chose not to?

Memory Verse:  “ Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. “

  • March 21-25 – Spring Break
  • April 7 – Parent Conference
  • April 15 – Snow make-up day

Other: 

  • The week of March 7, I will be asking kiddos to bring in a small box or can to try and catch a sneaky leprechaun!!!
  • No homework this week. Have fun researching and doing your poster.

Another week has flown by!  I hope that your child always feels like they are #1 to me.  We continue to push forward on addition. 

Ask your Child:

  • In the story, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” who won? What was the prize for being the winner?
  • How is it possible for a penguin to swim in icy cold water?
  • How did their hand feel when it was put in ice water? How did it feel different when it was wrapped in “blubber?” (Crisc)o
  • What was new at the texture tub this week? (Magnets)
  • What is love? (hint: patient, kind, is not jea___, does not boa___, does not disho____ others)

Memory Verse: “ Love is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”

  • April 7 – Parent Conference

  • Homework: Your child’s report will be the last homework assignment until April. Have fun, kiddos!  It’s your time to shine!!  (All the information will come home next Monday.)

This week we continued to learn about Abraham Lincoln.  We took time learning how his life was different than it would be today.  Your children learned about the Civil War and why it occurred during Lincoln’s Presidency. 

Ask Your Child:

  • What was new in the math station?” (hint: heart measuring)
  • Why did Lincoln’s family move north from Kentucky to Illinois?
  • Why did the Civil War even happen? (hint: Northern vs. Southern states and what they thought about slaves.)
  • What did Abraham Lincoln believe?
  • What are 3 ways life was different when Lincoln was a boy, compared to today. (hint: how he got food, type of house he lived in, how he got to school, the type of clothes he wore, what his bed was made out of, etc.)
  • What does “Love is not jealous, it does not boast, it is not proud” mean to them? What is the difference between being happy for someone and being jealous.

Memory Verse:  “Love does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking.”

Another wonderful week has flown by! We have started to prepare for the Father’s/Special Buddy party and are now learning about Abraham Lincoln.

Ask your child:

  • What does “Love is patient. Love is kind” mean to them? What is an example of a time they showed patience and kindness.
  • What happened to Augustus Gloop in the story, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?”
  • To describe “Veruca Salt” in the story. (The spoiled girl.) Would this be someone you think you would like to be friends with?  Why or why not?
  • To tell you what was new in the science area. (hint: Think of snow.)
  • Who was Abraham Lincoln? Did he like to be called Abe? What type of house did he grow up in? 

 

Memory Verse:  “Love is not jealous, it does not boast, it is not proud.”

Future Dates:

  • February 14: Valentine’s Day Party at 2:00. Due to illness, Mr. Crane has asked this to be just a class party.  I am so sorry.
  • February 24 @ 12:15: Father’s Day Party

Will the groundhog see his shadow?  Ask your child what they predicted!

Ask your Child:

  • To tell you the groundhogs name that lives in Pennsylvania.
  • What animal are groundhogs related to?
  • What are 2 other names for groundhogs? (hint: Whistle___ and Wood____)
  • Why are groundhogs sometimes called “Whistlepigs?”
  • What does it mean that groundhogs “hibernate?”

Memory Verse:  “Love is patient.  Love is kind.”  (Being the month of February, we will be focusing on what genuine friendship/love is.)

Future Dates:

  • February 14: Valentine’s Day Party at 2:00. A class list will be sent out next week.
  • Thursday Feb. 24 at 12:15 – “Father’s/Special Buddy” Day Party. More info to come.

Reading logs will be collected Monday.
